About Us

MedTech UCL is an interdisciplinary collective of students with a common interest in using technology to solve problems in healthcare. Our committee brings together skills and knowledge from fields such as medicine, computer science, neuroscience and more! We aim to bring you speakers and events that will broaden and deepen your interest in the changing landscape of medical technology. We strive to introduce you to cutting edge principles and to link them into the various fields in which they can be applied, be it surgery, pharmaceuticals, medical devices etc. Our talks so far have included introductions into the applications of artificial intelligence, blockchain and quantum computation to healthcare. We have also organised interactive VR demonstrations, coding workshops and an inter-university MedTech conference! UCL MedTech believes in educating our members about medical technology no matter what their background is and creating a community for inquisition and discussion. We are also dedicated to making it a lot of fun!

    UCL MedTech Society and UCL Artificial Intelligence Society are proud to present the UCL Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Conference 2018 - a one day bespoke conference focussing on the how artificial intelligence will alter the landscape of healthcare. We have gathered an expert panel, formed of team members from IBM Watson, Philips, Babylon Health, myrecovery.ai and many other renowned names in the industry, to provide an insight into and discuss the latest developments in AI.

    The day will consist of talks, discussions on the greater implications of AI, exciting workshops and networking opportunities. We look forward to seeing you there!

    Antigone has extensive experience in Investment Management, consultancy and in Analytics, making her a wealth of information on start-ups, MedTech and the world of investment banking. She has been with PwC for over 3 years and is the lead of PwC’s Scale Health Program to promote HealthTech startups. Scale helps connect startups to both public and private health organisations, whilst also providing insight through industry experts.

    Natasha Stern, who is a McKinsey partner specializing in strategy, healthcare consulting and public sector efficiency, is coming down to our campus! In the past few years, Natasha has helped many healthcare providers, either public or private, to choose their best development strategies and manage the performance of transformations. Natasha has also served at Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit in the cabinet office from 2004 to 2005 with many experiences in public sector consulting and public policy transformations.

    If you are interested in strategic consulting, McKinsey & Co., public sector or healthcare consulting, this is the event you will regret to miss. Students from ALL backgrounds are encouraged to attend and get your personal questions asked in our Q&A and networking sessions.     Dr Anni Mekhail is the Deputy Chair and co-founder for the Deloitte Clinical Network in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa).

    She is responsible for developing the firm's business unit health technology strategy.

    Come and hear Dr Mekhail talk about her day-to-day role at Deloitte, and how she pioneers the development of innovative health technologies, such as e-prescribing services and software, revolutionary new methods of recording patient information, and working with ‘big data’ in healthcare.

    She has been a founding member of two successful bootstrapped start-up companies and has co-authored two medical textbooks. Anni is published in a number of medical journals, most recently in the BMJ Simulation and Technology Enhanced Learning demonstrating practical applications of machine learning in medicine. She has experience working as a clinician across three continents.

    Deloitte is one of the largest consulting and professional services networks in the world, with a revenue of $43.2 billion in 2018.

    UCL, Imperial, Bart's and King's MedTech Societies teamed up to create a National Student MedTech Conference for seasoned and novel MedTech enthusiasts alike. Students and people of all backgrounds came to discover the current and future trends of the health tech industry from corporate leaders in the field, such as IBM and Microsoft Health and Life Sciences, as well as the most eminent health tech start-ups such as Galvani Bioelectronics, Applied Nanodetectors and DeepMind Health.

Speaker: Andy Stanford-Clark, CTO for IBM (UK & Ireland)

Andy Stanford-Clark will explain how his hobby of home automation and his passion for energy saving converges with the Internet of Things. 
His innovative ideas have led to projects that have helped alleviate energy poverty in social housing, and technology that is helping look after elderly and vulnerable people in their homes. He will illustrate his talk with examples from his home and beyond, including his twittering mouse traps and animatronic dinosaurs at a local theme park.
